The Role of the Project Supervisor
The project supervisor acts as a representative of Athabasca University
and may or may not be a full-time employee of the University. When the
project supervisor is not a full-time employee of the University, he or
she is paid an honorarium. A project supervisor normally has a masters
degree or doctorate in the area in which the student wishes to study.
The role of the project supervisor is to:

Assist the student in preparing a learning contract that has clear
and attainable objectives and/or learning outcomes,

Assist in identifying some materials (e.g., books, tapes, periodicals,
equipment, etc.) that will initially help the student meet the obligations
agreed to in the contract,

Provide both verbal and written information and feedback to the student,
and
-
Evaluate the research using the objectives and evaluation scheme
agreed upon in the learning contract, and assign a final percentage
grade.
