Unit 15
Native Healing

Aboriginal people in Canada are a highly diverse population with great variations in culture and language (Masi et al., 1993). However, they hold a similar principle of a holistic belief in health; their approach reflects an integrated belief system. For them, the balance of self, community, and nature is prominent in the promotion of health. To be out of balance is to be diseased.

Objectives

When you have completed this unit, you should be able to

  1. discuss the nature of Native healing.
  2. identify situations where Native healing is commonly used.
  3. determine the effectiveness of Native healing by analysing the available research.
  4. identify trends and issues related to Native healing.
