Cancer and Non-Infectious Conditions
One of the most common causes of death is cancer. Fortunately, there is much that can be done both to prevent cancer and to treat it successfully. This unit examines cancer and other major medical conditions including selected respiratory, neurological, digestive, and metabolic disorders, as well as common musculoskeletal ailments and other maladies.

- describe the most common types of cancer, their risk factors, development, prevention, detection, and treatment.
- describe type 2 diabetes and lactose intolerance, and discuss the health implications, risk factors, and prevention of type 2 diabetes.
- describe the characteristics of emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma.
- describe arthritis, low back pain, and osteoporosis including risk factors, characteristics, and prevention of each.
- describe the characteristics of headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, and job-related disorders.
- distinguish between a population health and a high risk approach to disease prevention.
