Sexuality

This unit examines sexuality and relationships in association with their impact on health. Specific topics include the biological factors involved in sexuality, sexual functioning, and various forms of sexual behaviour. (Note: Unit 11 deals with sexually transmitted infections.)

Objectives

After completing this unit, you should be able to

  1. define sexual identity and discuss the major components of sexual identity including biological sex, gender identity, gender roles, and sexual orientation.
  2. identify the components of the male and female reproductive anatomy and physiology, and explain their functions.
  3. discuss the options for expressing one’s sexuality.
  4. identify reproductive system dysfunctions, and describe each of them.
  5. outline the recent changes in Canadian laws and policies with respect to sexual orientation, sexual expression, and sexual dysfunction.
