Unit 9
Heart Health and Disease

Short Answer

Compare the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Blood pressure is measured by both systolic and diastolic pressures. Systolic pressure (the upper number in the fraction) measures pressure on the walls of the arteries when the heart contracts. Diastolic pressure (the lower number in the fraction) measures pressure on the walls of the arteries during the relaxation phase of heart activity—between heart beats.
