Unit 2
Sexuality

Short Answer

What are the differences between celibacy and abstinence?

Abstinence can mean many things, including not having sexual intercourse, not doing certain sexual activities, or not engaging in any sexual touching. People of all ages can practice abstinence, whether they have been sexually active in the past or not. Celibacy is sometimes used as a synonym for abstinence. Complete celibacy refers to abstention from sexual relations including masturbation. With partial celibacy the person masturbates.
