Welcome to History 367/Global Studies 367: World War II, a three-credit university history course which provides a systematic introduction to the causes and events of the Second World War.

We still live in the wake of World War II. The post-war division of much of the world into two armed camps, one dominated by the United States and the other by the Soviet Union, was to a large extent the consequence of actions and decisions made during the decade 1937 to 1947. Moreover, World War II directly affected the lives of many of us, through family deaths or marriage, or other fundamental changes resulting from the upheaval of those years. This course is intended to provide a fuller understanding of the events and attitudes of the war years, and of some of the arguments that are still very much alive concerning what really happened in that vital decade, 1937 to 1947.

The course is intended primarily for students enrolled in either History or Global Studies degree or certificate programs, but it is also suitable for other students with an interest in recent and contemporary history. While there are no formal prerequisites for History 367/Global Studies 367, it is designed to be a relatively specialized course offered at the senior level, and hence students are assumed to already have some background in modern European history. Consequently, you are advised to take an introductory modern European history course before registering in History 367/Global Studies 367: World War II.

Important Notice to Students: Because this course is cross-listed, students who are registered in GLST 367 may find some course materials labelled HIST 367. The course materials for GLST 367 and HIST 367 are the same.
