Unit 6
Heritage on the Street:
Cities, Towns, and Villages

In the 1970s, federal support for multiculturalism helped municipalities develop attractions such as heritage festivals. Municipal support to culture through grants programs and facilities has since become well established. With the economic restructuring of the 1980s, stronger economic rationales were sought, and the relevance of urban cultural policy to economic revitalization and urban regeneration has become increasingly central to cultural policy.
