Course Objectives

When you have completed Health Administration 315, you should be able to

  1. trace the historical roots of the concept of community development.
  2. identify the major concepts, assumptions, and principles of community development.
  3. analyze CD programs or projects implemented in local communities.
  4. assess the effectiveness of the application of CD concepts and principles in solving social and economic problems in local communities.
  5. compare CD experiences among communities in Tanzania, Ghana, Bangladesh, Canada, and Chile.
  6. discuss the principles and goals of “gender in development.”
  7. discuss critical problems encountered by CD programs or projects implemented in Tanzania, Ghana, Bangladesh, Canada, and Chile.
  8. describe the roles of an effective CD worker or organizer.
  9. define the concept of primary health care (PHC).
  10. identify and discuss conceptual similarities between PHC and CD.
  11. assess the effectiveness of PHC programs or projects in addressing PHC needs of the local people.
  12. describe the role of an effective PHC educator/organizer.
