Your final grade in Geology 313 will be based on five assignments, a course project, and two examinations. The passing grade for Geology 313 is sixty per cent (60%). You must average sixty per cent on the assignments and receive a grade of at least sixty per cent to pass each examination. The Assignment Manual contains five assignments and detailed instructions about the course project. You must complete all graded assignments to receive credit for Geology 313. Each assignment covers material from two course units and comprises 20 multiple-choice questions and 10 short-answer questions. You are advised to complete the assignments only after you have worked through the appropriate course units.
After completing each assignment, submit the finished version to your tutor via Moodle for grading.
You are required to complete a course project chosen from the six options found in your Assignment Manual. You should begin collecting the necessary data for your project after you have completed Units 1–5 and written the mid-term exam, and submit the project with a TME form before writing the final exam.
After selecting a project, you are advised to consult your tutor to discuss your choice. All projects will require that you conduct a literature survey for background information. You may use the AU library, your local library, and the Internet. Your tutor can also help you if needed.
The mid-term examination is three hours long and covers material from Units 1–5. The examination comprises multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, and short essay questions.
The final examination is three hours long and covers all of the material in the course, although it concentrates on the material from Units 6–10. It consists of multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, and short essay questions.
The passing grade for examinations is sixty per cent (60%). If you receive less than sixty per cent, you must write a supplemental examination. If you write a supplemental exam, you will be awarded the higher of the two grades you receive. There is a fee for supplemental examination services. Only one supplemental is permitted per examination.
