Welcome to English 492: Research and Writing Projects in Literature. This Athabasca University course is part of the English program offered by the Centre for Language and Literature.

English 492 is a course designed for students who want to pursue an extended research and writing project under the direction of a professor. The topic for the project will be determined through consultation between the student and the professor. The course of study will normally include the production of a major paper. The project proposal will include the goals, the procedures and the deadline for completing the different phases of the work.

In English 492 there is some choice of topic which is only limited by the research and teaching interests of the faculty in the Centre for Language and Literature. A project can focus on the works of one major author, or on a major work such as Milton’s Paradise Lost, or Pound’s The Cantos. The approach can be primarily literary or interdisciplinary.

Note that ENGL 492 has a similar purpose and structure as ENGL 491 which has a strong emphasis on Cultural Studies.

The page on research includes links to sites of literary material available on the internet.
