Section 6.1 Poetry and the Avant Garde
The term "avant-garde" literally refers to those who, in military excursions, forge ahead and thus take unforseen risks. In art, poetry, and the cinema, the term has come to refer to artistic practices that are on the cutting edge. As a consequence, the term applies to a wide variety of practices. Take this opportunity to investigate a few:
- Begin with a web page titled What is Alternative Cinema: Definitions and Distinctions that considers avant-garde in film.
- Explore a web site dedicated to Russian Avant-Garde Art.
- Look to see what Athabasca University's library has on the shelves about avant-garde poetry, art, film, or music.
