If you have a student loan, however, the completion date may be established sooner. You may of course work more quickly, and devise your own time lines. Because you must take into consideration mailing time for the turnaround of assignments and exams, however, you should allow at least three months for the completion of the course.

Plan on setting aside a period of three hours, three times a week to work on the course. Schedule approximately one month for each unit. You will find that not all units are of equal weight, however, and that you will complete some more quickly than others. The readings for Unit I, for example, are fairly short, while the novels in Unit II will require more time. Adjust your schedule accordingly, taking three weeks for Unit I, and five weeks for Unit II, for example.

You should send in your first assignment within 4 weeks of your start date in order to receive early feedback from your tutor. Take at least a week to plan and write each assignment, and two weeks to study for the exam. Here is a suggested study schedule:

You should apply to the Office of the Registrar at Athabasca University to write your examination at least three weeks before the date on which you intend to write. If you have a deadline for a transcript, allow at least a month for the marking and processing of the exam and the final mark.
