- assess the nature of ethical systems and processes as well as the expectations of the Canadian democratic society of the role of educators in understanding, accepting, and applying the correct ethical principles.
- discuss the increasing role the courts are playing in education law.
- analyze the historical, constitutional, and legal framework that exists in, and for the regulation and governance of, education.
- discuss the division of power between, and the roles and responsibilities of, the federal and provincial governments in relation to education, including First Nations education.
- describe the school boards’ responsibilities and students’ rights in schools.
- evaluate the impact of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms on education.
- describe the practical application of education law and how it applies to real life situations as evidenced in court cases and in professional codes of conduct.
