Education 404 requires you to complete four written assignments that total 60% of your final grade. The contribution of these written assignments to your success in this course cannot be over-emphasized. Completing the written assignments will help you to integrate your learning and gain confidence and knowledge for the final examination. Adhering to the due dates suggested in the “Study Schedule” should help you to pace your work and to incorporate the feedback and suggestions from your tutor into subsequent assignments.
The assignments for this course are cumulative, that is, Assignment 1 covers the concepts presented in Units 1 and 2; Assignment 2 covers the concepts presented in Units 1 through 4; Assignment 3 covers units 1 through 6; and Assignment 4 covers the entire course. The questions for each assignment, as well as the specific directions for preparing and completing the assignment, are contained in the “Course Assignments” section of the Course Manual.
All assignments must be submitted in a form and layout accessible to your course tutor. Consult with your tutor if you have any concerns about the suitability of your topic or research strategies before you begin researching and writing. Your tutor can advise you on the adequacy of your information and may suggest other sources for you to investigate. You are advised to wait until you have received feedback from your tutor on one assignment before proceeding to the next one. Your course tutor is responsible for marking and grading all four assignments. If you are not satisfied with the grade you receive on any assignment, be sure to discuss it with your tutor first.
Note: You may also submit your assignments by email. Consult with your tutor about an appropriate email format and address and obtaining an electronic version of the “Tutor-marked Exercise” form. Assignments that are submitted by email are likely to be marked and returned to you sooner than assignments submitted via regular post.
All written assignments must adhere to an appropriate essay format.
In addition to consulting the course materials, that is, the content contained in your textbooks, Study Guide, and Reading File, your essays must show evidence of research, if so directed, beyond these materials. You can access such materials via Internet searches, by contacting the Athabasca University Library, or by visiting your local public library. Your best course of action would be to contact the Athabasca University Library first.
