To receive credit for Education 310, you must complete six written assignments. The weightings for each assignment are as follows:
| Activity | Credit Weight | Date Due |
| Assignment 1 | 10% of final grade | End of Unit 1 |
| Assignment 2 | 15% of final grade | End of Unit 2 |
| Assignment 3 | 15% of final grade | End of Unit 3 |
| Assignment 4 | 15% of final grade | End of Unit 4 |
| Assignment 5 | 20% of final grade | End of Unit 5 |
| Assignment 6 | 25% of final grade | End of All Units |
| Total | 100% of final grade |
Your final grade is determined by a weighted average of the grades you receive on these assignments. To receive credit for this course, you must achieve a minimum, overall grade of D (50%).
Education 310 requires you to complete six assignments that total 100 percent of your final grade. Thus, their contribution to your overall success in this course cannot be over-emphasized. Completing these assignments will help you to integrate the training and labour market information presented throughout the course. Adhering to the due dates suggested in the “Study Schedule” should help you to pace your work and to incorporate the feedback and suggestions from your tutor into subsequent assignments.
When you have finished a unit, your Study Guide will direct you to complete the unit’s corresponding assignment. Assignment 1 covers the concepts presented in Unit 1, Assignment 2 covers the concepts presented in Unit 2, and so on. Assignment 6 requires you to combine the concepts presented in all five units. The instructions for all assignments, as well as specific directions for preparing and submitting your responses, are included in the “Course Assignments” section of the Course Manual.
Some of these assignments require you to do research beyond the course materials provided. If you are unsure of your researching skills, contact your tutor for help. For information on essay writing and conducting research, you may want to search the Athabasca University Library’s online journal database.
Be careful to avoid plagiarism. To ensure that you are using your own words, try putting your books and notes aside while you write your essay. Once a draft of the essay is written, you can add references and suitable quotations. Remember that quotations should support your argument, not make it.
All assignments must be submitted in a form and layout accessible to your course tutor. Ensure that all title pages include the title of your assignment submission, your name and Student ID number, the course name and number, and the date you submitted it. Remember to proofread your final drafts carefully, keep a copy of each completed assignment for your records, and attach a paper or an electronic version of the Tutor-Marked Exercise form to each one before submitting it.
Be sure to consult with your tutor if you have any concerns about the suitability of your topic or research strategies before you begin researching and writing. Your tutor can advise you on the adequacy of your information and may suggest other sources for you to investigate. You are advised to wait until you have received feedback from your tutor on one assignment before proceeding to the next one. Your course tutor is responsible for marking and grading all six assignments. If you are not satisfied with the grade you receive on any assignment, be sure to discuss it with your tutor.
Note: You may also submit your assignments by e-mail. Consult with your tutor about an appropriate e-mail format and address and obtaining an electronic version of the Tutor-Marked Exercise form. Assignments that are submitted by e-mail are likely to be marked and returned to you sooner than assignments submitted via regular post.
