Experiment B3
Reactions and Identification of Aqueous Cations

Flame Test for Na and K Flame test for Na and K.

This experiment centres around the classic qualitative identification of common cations. Chemical tests showing colour change, evolution of gas, or formation of a precipitate are used in combination with deductive reasoning to identify cations in an aqueous solution. This experiment really brings out the Sherlock Holmes in many chemistry students.
