Welcome to Introduction to Astronomy and Astrophysics, a three-credit course designed to introduce the science of astronomy. The course has the following goals:

  1. to help students gain an understanding of how the human view of the universe has changed over time.
  2. to develop students’ basic understanding of the major components of the universe we see—the planets, the Sun, other stars, and galaxies.
  3. to show students how the scientific method is used to develop an understanding of nature and the universe.
  4. to give students an appreciation of science, both for its own sake and for the benefits of its technological applications.
