Art History 202/History 204

To obtain credit for Art History 202/History 204, you must submit two written assignments and write two examinations of two hours' duration. The assignment topics are in the Student Manual. If you have difficulty choosing a topic, your tutor will help you select an appropriate one. Before doing your assignments or writing the exam, please re-read the sections in the Student Manual on writing essays and exams.

We strongly recommend that you follow the order suggested in the course schedule in the Student Manual: complete your assignments and review your tutor's comments before you write the exams. Preparing the assignments and receiving your tutor's comments on them will be helpful in your preparation for the exams.

Assignment 1: 1000 word essay worth 20% of the final grade.

Assignment 2: 1500 word essay worth 30% of the final grade.

Examinations: each worth 25% of the final grade. Topics will include definition of terms, identification and discussion of art works, periods, movements, etc. For examination purposes, you are responsible for all the required reading assigned in Janson's History of Art except for the “Timelines.” To receive credit for the course, you must obtain a minimum grade of 50% on the exam and a course composite or final grade of at least 50%.

Note:

1. If you are transferring credits to another institution, you should be aware that the other institution may require a final grade higher than 50% for credit.
2. Please write your examinations in pen, not in pencil (which is more apt to smudge and become difficult to read). You are not allowed to consult notes, texts, or other study aids while writing the exam in Art History 202/History 204.
