Part Two
Formal Outline

In this section of the course, your tasks are (1) to read critically the written items on your sources list, for a detailed understanding of what they contain; (2) to take notes on what you read; and (3) to generate a formal outline of your essay, which will be submitted to the course professor for a grade. For those of you doing a field-based project, you will need also to gain access to your field location, satisfy the course professor that you have met the ethical requirements your research entails, collect your data, and devise some satisfactory way of recording and classifying it.
