Students who approach their studies in a systematic and organized manner are more likely to complete the course successfully than are those who do not plan a course of action for themselves. You are advised, therefore, to follow a study schedule to assist you in budgeting your time and monitoring your progress.

As you complete each activity, you can check it off so you will know it is done, and you can actually see the progress you are making in the course. You must complete all of the telephone quizzes and written assignments before writing the final exam. You can call your tutor if you have difficulty with the material, or if you are unable to adhere to the schedule as suggested. He or she will be able to advise you as to what options are available to you. You may, of course, proceed more quickly than is suggested by these study schedules.

Schedule
Weeks 1-2 (Week 1)* Read the Student Manual.
  Call your tutor to make initial contact if he or she has not already called you.
  Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 1: Introduction to Archaeology.
  Call your tutor if you have any questions.
Weeks 3-4 (Week 2) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 2: History of Archaeological Research in Alberta.
  Take Telephone Quiz 1.
Weeks 5-6 (Week 3) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 3: The Natural Environment and First Nations of Alberta.
  Begin work on the Critical Review assignment as directed in the Assignment Manual. Review the “Tips on Writing Essays and Research Papers” section of the Student Manual.
  Begin work on the Map Assignment as directed in the Assignment Manual.
  Call your tutor if you have any questions.
Weeks 7-9 (Week 4) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 4: Archaeological Approaches to the Study of Prehistoric Hunter-gatherers.
  Complete the Critical Review assignment and submit it to your tutor for marking and feedback. Remember to enclose a Tutor-marked Exercise Form along with your assignment.
  Begin work on the Research Paper as directed in the Assignment Manual. Review the “Tips on Writing Essays and Research Papers” section of the Student Manual.
  Call your tutor if you have any questions.
Weeks 10-12 (Week 5) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 5: The First Albertans.
Weeks 13-15 (Weeks 6-7) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 6: The Folsom and Plano People, 10,500 to 7,500 B.P.
  Take Telephone Quiz 2.
  Make arrangements to write the Mid-term exam in week 15. Consult the appropriate sections of the Student Manual and the AU Calendar for directions on applying for and writing exams. See also the “Taking Exams” section of the Student Manual.
  Review Units 3 to 6 in preparation for the Mid-term Exam.
  Call your tutor if you have any questions.
Week 16 (Week 8) Write the Mid-term Exam.
Weeks 17-20 (Weeks 9-10) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 7: Middle Prehistoric Cultures, 7,500 to 1,750 B.P.
  Continue work on the map and research paper assignments.
Weeks 21-24 (Weeks 11-12) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 8: Late Prehistoric and Protohistoric Cultures, 1,750-1,250 to 120 B.P.
  Make arrangements to write the Final Exam in week 28. Consult the appropriate sections of the Student Manual and the AU Calendar for directions on applying for and writing exams. See also the “Taking Exams” section of the Student Manual.
  Complete the map and research paper assignments and submit them to your tutor for marking and feedback. Remember to enclose a Tutor-marked Exercise Form along with your assignments.
Weeks 25-27 (Week 13) Complete the assigned readings and study questions for Unit 9: Retrospect and Prospect.
  Take Telephone Quiz 3.
  Review Units 7 to 9 in preparation for the Final Exam.
  Call your tutor if you have any questions.
Week 28 (Week 14) Write the Final Exam.
