Volunteer Positions
Please indicate your volunteer preference on the staff RSVP form. Every effort will be made to place you in the volunteer position of your choice. The events co-ordinator will contact you to confirm volunteer arrangements prior to the event.
Coat check attendants: stores and secures students' coats and parcels (needed for three hours before the Convocation ceremony and two hours after)
Pre-festivity assistant: prepares tables, lays out name tags and sets up displays (needed Wednesday afternoon)
Table setter: prepares tables with skirts and cloths for various activities (needed on each event day)
Gowning supervisor: oversees the gowning attendants; responsible for gown return and inventory and for choosing an assistant to help with tasks (needed all day each event day)
Gowning attendant: helps students into robes and fastens the pins for securing hoods (needed two hours before and after each ceremony)
Greeter: meets students at the main entrance, assists them with name tags, answers their questions and directs them to various facility and event locations (needed for two-hour shifts from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each event day)
Lineup marshall: places students, other members of the academic procession and members of the platform party in the procession lineup (needed two hours before each ceremony)
Photographer's helper: ensures that releases have been signed and records the names of persons photographed (needed all day each event day)
Usher: shows guests to their seats in the tent, hands out programs and assists students on and off the stage during the ceremony (must be in the tent one hour before each ceremony and available after the ceremony)
Salesperson: sells hoods, frames and other merchandise and handles money from sales (set-up on Wednesday; needed all day each event day)
Department expert: answers guests' questions as they tour departments (needed all day each event day)
Water persons: ensures that all beverage/water dispensers in hallways and tents are full (needed for periodic checks each event day)
Breakfast and luncheon assistant: directs guests to food service and dining areas and assists those who need extra help (needed 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. each event day)
