Volunteer Staff Positions
Every effort will be made to place you in the volunteer position of your choice. Events Office staff will contact you to confirm volunteer arrangements prior to Convocation.
T-party team: prepare tables, lay out name tags and set up displays (needed Wednesday afternoon)
Gowning supervisor: oversee the gowning attendants; responsible for gown return and inventory (needed all day each event day)
Gowning attendant: help students with robes and hoods; fasten the pins for securing hoods (needed two hours before and after each ceremony)
Greeter: meet students at the main entrance, assist with name tags, ensure that photo releases have been signed, answer their questions and provide directions to event locations (needed for two-hour shifts from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each event day)
Lineup marshall: place students, members of the academic procession and members of the platform party in the procession lineup (needed two hours before each ceremony)
Photographer's helper: record the frame numbers of people being photographed (needed during the ceremony)
Usher: assist guests to their seats if required, hand out programs, respond to guest inquiries (needed one hour before each ceremony)
Salesperson: sell hoods, frames and other AU merchandise and process cash, cheque & credit card transactions (set-up on Wednesday; needed all day each event day)
Department expert: answer guests' questions as they tour departments (needed all day each event day)
Backstage pass person: point person behind stage. Assist students, Events staff & Platform party with any situation that may arise during ceremonies (needed from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.)
