Graduate Student Association Fee

The Faculty of Graduate Studies has received notification from the Athabasca University Graduate Students Association (AUGSA) that the Graduate Student Association Fee (GSAF) has been increased from $5.00 per credit to $12.00 per credit.  This means that the GSAF for a 3-credit course will now be $36.00.  The fee will be automatically added to your total fees payable.  This fee pertains to all graduate students (program and non-program) and to all graduate programs whether degree, diploma or certificate.

The new fee will be in effect for courses beginning in September 2010.  Students who will be registering on May 1, 2010 or later, for courses that begin in September 2010 or beyond, will be charged the new GSAF.

For questions or concerns regarding the new Graduate Student Association Fee, go to the AUGSA Executive site at http://gsa.athabascau.ca/council.html or contact Amanda Neilsen, President AUGSA at anielsen@ualberta.ca.

Graduate Student's Association

The Athabasca University Graduate Students' Association (AUGSA) is currently looking for a nursing student to act as the graduate council rep for that program. This role entails attending regular council meetings and consulting with the rest of AUGSA on nursing student issues. Please contact either Adam Snider at athabasca.grads@gmail.com, or the AUGSA's President Amanda Nielson at anielsen@ualberta.ca.

Alternatively, if no students are able to take on the role of Nursing Program Representative, we would be happy to hear from one or two students who are willing to consult with AUGSA on nursing student issues on an ad hoc basis (i.e., they can get in touch with AUGSA when the need arises, but will otherwise be free of the obligations that come with acting as a full-fledged council member).

Professor Publishes Prostate Surgery GuideVirginia Vandall-Walker

"We're always, as medical professionals, telling them what to do. But we're not as good at really finding out their concerns as they think about options for treatment."

If there's one thing Dr. Virginia Vandall-Walker believes in, it's listening to her patients. And what she discovered from all the listening is that men who are contemplating surgery for a potentially deadly condition have a lot of concerns, but not a lot of readily-available information. The result is Before and After Radical Prostate Surgery: Information and Resource Guide.  >>Read More
