Centre for Language & Literature

The Centre for Language and Literature offers courses in English, French, Spanish, and German, as well as Art History, Writing Skills, ELS, Creative Writing, and Film and Literature.

Assess your English using Athabasca University's English Language Self-Assessment.

Students can take individual courses or work toward a Bachelor of Arts in English or French degree, or a University Certificate in English Language Studies or French Language Proficiency. The English and French courses in Canadian Literature can also be applied toward a four-year Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies. Centre faculty currently offer courses in the University's M.A. Integrated Studies program (MAIS).

Many Centre courses can be transferred to degree programs offered at other universities in Canada and around the world.

Centre professors and tutors encourage students to work creatively with language and to develop skills in critical thinking and its application. Faculty members strive to prepare students for future careers as well as help them learn about and better appreciate their literary and artistic heritages.

The Centre for Language and Literature promotes teaching and research. Centre faculty have produced original research and publications, and have made significant contributions to the body of knowledge in Literary Studies.

We encourage students to contact individual staff members if they wish to discuss a particular course.

Many of our courses now have home pages which students are welcome to explore. The links are through the course list and the individual course syllabus.
