Computing Services

Computing Services provides diverse information technology (IT) services for Athabasca University including help desk services, PC hardware and software support, local area and wide area networking, telephone communications, database and administrative applications support, server administration and security, and web systems administration and programming support.

Service Units

Applications Unit: supports AU’s student record system (Banner), its course materials systems (CMIS and JTS) and provides general support on other administrative systems.

Database Unit: responsible for the maintenance, availability and integrity of institutional databases.

IT Help Desk: The help desk functions as a technical call centre for AU students and faculty and staff members. The PC sub-unit provides further support by ensuring optimum use of technology related resources.

Server Administration and Support Unit: supports AU’s underlying system architecture and the security and integrity of information transferred within it. A related sub-unit ensures that hardware is provided to support operational needs.

Telecommunications and Networking Unit: supports AU’s underlying system architecture and the security and integrity of information transferred within it. A related sub-unit ensures that hardware is provided to support operational needs.

Web Unit: supports the development and maintenance of AU’s web infrastructure, including the administration of web servers and related web programming/application development.
