PLAR program highlighted in new book

Athabasca University is the only Canadian institution featured in the newly-published book Prior Learning Portfolios: A Representative Collection (CAEL/Kendall Hunt Publishing). Edited by prior learning practitioner-academics Denise Hart and Jerry Hickerson from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Winston-Salem University respectively, the book includes a CD-Rom that contains copies of relevant models, processes, templates, and samples from each contributing university as well as historical material outlining the development of prior learning activities over the years, its theory, and CAEL\'s broadly-accepted quality standards for PLAR implementation and assessment.

Each chapter in the book describes the contributing institution’s PLAR history as well as outlining its process, assessment practices, and use of technology. Some statistical information is provided. 

AU’s involvement resulted from a presentation to CAEL’s 2007 conference made by Dr. Dianne Conrad, Director of the Centre for Learning Accreditation, and Jennifer Raboud, [then] Coordinator of Portfolio Assessment in CLA.

The 2008 CAEL conference in Philadelphia featured a book launch and signing event which was attended by representatives from the Centre for Learning Accreditation.
