AU welcomes distinguished visitors from Mozambique
September 11, 2008
Athabasca University would like to extend a warm welcome to two very special visitors, Emmanuel Dionisio and Teodato Nguirazi, who arrived in Edmonton on Friday after their long journey from Mozambique.Emmanuel and Teodato are our first two Canada-Mozambique Heritage Internship Program visitors, the first of four in an innovative program that will see Mozambiquan scholars begin coursework in AU`s Heritage Resource Management program, and gain experience in lessons learned in heritage management through placements at selected sites across the province during their six-week stay.
The visitors will be based at ELC until late September before heading out on the road to their placements, under the watchful eye of Dr. Don Wetherell, Program Director for HRM.
I would like to enquire of the entire AU community - and a similar request will be going out to our Tutor group and support staff - as to whether we have anyone in the organization who comes from Mozambique (or Malawi or Zimbabwe, whose borders our visitors’ ethnic groups cross), or who have spent time in the country. If so, we would like to enlist your help in orienting our visitors, who as you might imagine, are currently jetlagged and probably feeling as if they`ve landed in another dimension. They are currently being hosted by generous billet hosts in Edmonton, but a bit more social support is desirable. Please respond to Iain Grant (imgrant@athabascau.ca) directly if you have such a background.
As always, we are confident that AU staff will show their customary hospitality and collegiality for visitors from abroad - please, if you encounter Teodato or Emmanuel, take a moment to find out how they`re finding it in Canada, or ask them about life in Mozambique. They will be delighted to chat with you.
